Pre-Care for Lips
Please read. The following requires special consideration before permanent makeup procedures can take place.
If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex) and are scheduling a lip enhancement, we advise you to use anti-herpes medication. Zovirax ointment should be used 5 times a day, 5 days prior to and 5 days after your procedure. This ointment reduces the chance of an outbreak by about 50%. Oral medication such as Valtrex will control the chance of an outbreak almost completely. This medication should be taken 3 days prior and 5 days after your procedure. Micropigmentation does not cause cold sores but can arouse the dormant virus in your system during the treatment process.
Weeks Before:
- No Laser or Chemical Peel for 1 Month prior to procedure
- Dermal fillers in the lip should be performed no less than 4 weeks prior to your procedure
- Electrolysis treatments should be performed no less than 4 weeks prior to your procedure
- IPL laser hair removal around the mouth should be carried out no less than 2 weeks prior to your procedure
- Waxing and bleaching treatments should be performed no less than 2 weeks prior to your procedure
- Stop using any Retin-A or AHA products for 2 weeks prior to procedure
- No microdermabrasion for 2 weeks prior to procedure
- Botox should be done 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after procedure
- No tanning for 1 week prior to procedure
- I recommend that you do a gentle lip scrub 1 week, and also 2 days prior to your procedure. You can use a homemade scrub (mix coconut oil and sugar). This will help to achieve better results during the procedure.
- Make sure you moisturize your lips well every day for at least 7 days prior to your procedure. I advise drinking plenty of water to avoid lips drying out and to help with the healing process.
- Avoid booking during your menstrual cycle as it can increase your pain
Days Before:
- I recommend that you do a gentle lip scrub 1 week, and also 2 days prior to your procedure. You can use a homemade scrub (mix coconut oil and sugar). This will help to achieve better results during the procedure.
- No alcohol the night prior or the day of the procedure
- Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E or ibuprofen 24 hours before the procedure
On the Day:
- I advise not making any social plans on the day of your procedure.
- Do not work out on the day of the procedure
- 24 hours prior to your appointment, DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL OR CAFFEINE
- 24 hours prior to your appointment, DO NOT TAKE ADVIL or other blood thinners such as Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E unless medically necessary.
- Arrive with light makeup for your appointment. A lot of wiping of pigment takes place and makeup can get ruined, so save yourself the hassle!
